Get To Know Beth Schuman, the amazing founder of 8 Faces

After a successful career as a TV producer, Beth Schuman began noticing stress-related issues. That’s why she decided to create 8 Faces, an all-in-one natural product that is highly effective and easy to use.

First thing first, we’d love to know the story behind your brand, 8 Faces. What led you to launch a skincare brand? And what’s the vision behind the name?
I’m a former TV producer/ director and was constantly traveling for work. I wanted to create a product that was multipurpose that I could bring on my shoots. But I didn’t want to sacrifice luxury or efficacy. So I played around with ingredients that I discovered on my trips and created Boundless Solid Oil. A product you can use on face, body, hands; anywhere in need of loving repair. It’s made with USDA certified organic ingredients including Amla Berry our hero ingredient.
The vision behind our name was inspired by the 8 phases of a lunar cycle, each has its own time for transformation. The moon is often referred to as a feminine symbol with 8 Faces.
What is your approach to clean/holistic beauty?
Simple and effective. I have a very uncomplicated approach to my routine and like products that can multi task.

Where do you source ingredients from?
From concsious sustainable growers around the globe that uphold free trade practices.

In your opinion which harmful ingredients commonly found in skin care products we should definitely avoid?
Parabens and fragrance are some of the scary ones, but obviously the list is long. When i learned that parabens have been found in breast tissue of cancer patients that was a huge alarm bell.

Do you see your skincare range evolving in the future?
Yes we will have a new launch in late fall 2020 and two more products in 2021. With Covid we had to reschedule our new product launch to a later date.
.

What is your self-care approach?
Getting out into nature as much as possible, I have a little cottage on a lake and I go there to unwind and get inspired and recharge. For me this is the best self-care.

Right, we want to know your beauty secrets. What is your daily beauty regimen?
It’s pretty basic! I use Micellar water at the end of the day to remove makeup etc. then I use witch hazel as my toner then Boundless Solid Oil and depending on the season I will add a moisturizer as last step at night. During the day I’m testing our new face oil to tihgten and tone ..which I love and then I use a bit of concealer and mascara.

An expensive-but-worth-it beauty treatment?
V-Beam laser treatment. This helps if you have rosacea or reactive skin that turns red easily. It’s non invasive and really helps reduce any redness and tones the skin. You can do one treatment every 6 months to a year.

What about exercise?
I hike and walk a lot and practice yoga. You won’t find me in a gym, I’d rather do outdoor activities like ski and wakeboard.

What do you do to relax?
Take a bath and I love to add pursoma digital detox bath salts. This is so therapeutic and really makes you feel like you are doing something good for yourself. I feel so relaxed after and have the best sleeps.

Are there any beauty secrets that your mother or grandmother passed down to you?
My mother used to always make her own scrubs and masks. As a child I thought this was so weird using food on your face…well a lot has changed for me since then and looking back at her oatmeal and honey masks she was onto something!

And now, quickfire round. Name three beauty products that you always have in your handbag.
1999 Beauty is a new brand and they have the most incredible red lip liner and gloss that you can use on lips or cheeks and it is the most perfect colour and Boundless Solid Oil mini that is my go-to for everything.

And three desert island products?
I’ve recently started to take biotin and have noticed a difference in my nails and hair..so I would say this product, dr.bronners almond castille soap, Boundless Solid Oil.
What is the last thing you do before going to sleep?
Use the gua sha and Boundless Solid Oil and Drink water.

And the first thing you do in the morning?
Kiss my 3 month old baby and drink lemon water.

Your bathroom: more is more or Marie Kondo?
Definitely Marie Kondo, I really don’t have many products anymore.

Most-worn piece of clothing?
Black leggings. Easy to dress up or down.

Your brunch order?
Blueberry Pancakes and a matcha latte with oat milk.

What is your favorite thing about being a woman?
Now that I am a new mom it truly amazes me what the concept of multitasking  means. I can be feeding the baby while answering emails and picking up toys off the ground with my feet.

The most valuable piece of advice you ever received?
The first thing that came to mind was my grandmother used to sing Que Sera Sera and her advice was ‘what will be will be’. And as cliche as it sounds it stuck with me to mean do your best and it will turn out how it’s meant to be. So I would put my efforts into the process and not the outcome…you never know things could end up better than you had hoped for!
