A Beauty and Self-Care Chat With Julie Elliott, In Fiore Founder

There is something very special about In Fiore skincare: a mix of textures, colors, scents and properties that's impossibile to replicate. We had a chat with Julie Elliott, aka the brains, nose and aesthetic behind the brand. Here is what she had to say.

How would you define "clean beauty"?
I look at clean beauty as a lifestyle. One that integrates modalities with products made with materials in their purest form that are healthy, safe, fresh, and ethically sourced to support our physiology and stimulate healing.

What inspired you to start your own brand?
The seed idea came to me over twenty years ago while living in New York and shopping the cosmetic floor of department stores and feeling a lack of connection to beauty products. Like, there was no resonance. And, how with urban living, we tend to lose all concept of our relationship to nature—most importantly, the inherent healing capabilities of plants. At the time, I had already been studying plant signatures since I was a young girl and making infused balms in my tiny New York apartment. This combined experience leads me to think of how fine craftsmanship with exquisite materials and artisanal methods are the purest form of luxury—and they were completely missing from the beauty experience. This sparked the seed idea for In Fiore. It was 1997, and I launched In Fiore in 1999.

What is the holy grail product of your line?
Fleur Vibrante— we call her the High Priestess.

What is your personal skincare routine?
Most of my skincare happens in the evening, where I double cleanse with oil and a gentle emulsion, plus copious amounts of massage followed by contrast rinsing with warm and cold water. Then I layer Fleur Vibrante Serum Cerate, followed by Complexe de Fleur Serum and Vis Clair Suprême eye cream. In the morning, I splash my face with alternating warm and cold water and layer with the same products as evening routine, plus sunscreen.

What are your wellness essentials?
My top priority is keeping my immune system healthy and minimizing toxin load in my skin and body. Without fail, I take four therapeutic baths per week to neutralize the effects of radiation and pollution and to detox heavy metals. Internally, I take chlorella and spirulina tablets, and I support my overall physiology with supplements prescribed by my homeopathic physician.

What is your favorite place in the world? And why?
The islands and Peloponnese coast of Greece because they have the most beautiful crystal clear waters in the world for swimming, and I love the simple, rustic way of life.

What are your healthy habits?
Mediation, intermittent fasting, dry brushing, bathing, staying away from aluminum- including foil and foods cooked in aluminum, and I do two parasite cleanses per year.

How do you practice self-care?
I set boundaries around my time to ensure I have space for myself— I learned to say no. I stay off screens in the morning until I leave for work, and in the evenings after 7:30 pm. And no matter what, I make sure I get 7 hours of sleep each night. And of course, I always take my baths.

When you travel, is there something you always pack in your suitcase?
I always travel with a dry brush, ingredients for my therapeutic baths, calendula oil, my skincare regimen, supplements, and homeopathic remedies. And, like, three outfits.

What is your personal beauty secret?
Mediation and intermittent fasting have changed my life, my energy, which affects how I look and feel. It's all about vital force.

What are the craziest things you've done in the name of beauty?
Well, this will sound crazy to most people, but I add 1/2 cup of Clorox bleach to my bath 2x per week to detox heavy metals such as aluminum and lead. It is a decades-old homeopathic treatment that is even employed by the famous Mayo Clinic medical center for skin issues such as eczema.

What is your favorite workout and how often per week?
Workout consistency is something I need to get better at, but as a rule, I walk everywhere I can, always take the stairs, and do not allow myself to sit for longer than one hour at a time. Otherwise, I like pilates, mat work, and stretching.

Is there a supplement that you swear by?
Olive Leaf Extract— it is nature's antibiotic as it fights off unwanted invaders and viruses. It is also said to support healthy brain function, and the effects on the skin are fantastic as it heals damaged skin and prevents cell damage caused by oxidation.

What is your preferred time to go to bed and to wake up?
Most nights I am in bed by 9:30 pm, and wake up between 3:30 - 4:30 am for meditation.

What beauty brands do you rate (besides your own)?
Omorovicza for their masks, and Luzern Labs for their sunscreen.

What is your favorite hotel? Restaurant? Dish?
I am a world traveler, so it is tough to choose only one. For the hotel, one of my favorites is The Mercer in New York. For a restaurant, my go-to in San Francisco, where I live, is Zuni Café. One of my favorite meals is oysters with an elegant, simple leafy green salad, and always with a Negroni cocktail.
