Superwoman Beth Shuman

Beth is a TV producer turned beauty entrepreneur who created everyone’s favorite multi use balm - 8Faces. As she gets ready to launch new products in 2022 she shares with us how she fits it all in - time in nature, sleep, research, zoom’s and cabin life.

What did you do before you founded 8Faces and how has it helped inform how you do what you do now?

After decades working in the fast-paced TV industry producing hit series, I noticed stress-related changes to my skin from the hectic schedule and constant travel. It was then that I initially defined a need for a premium, multi-purpose product that was effective, easy to use and as much in-sync with nature as with my life on the go. We have a range of new products launching over the next 24 months and I feel like each product is an episode in the series. I kind of put on my producer hat to dig into research, creative and execution. It’s been an amazing journey.

What’s been the most surprising element of starting your own business?

There are no set hours or days, I’m ‘working’ all the time, consuming information about ingredients, packaging etc. It also amazes me how we can work seamlessly with partners located all over the world through zoom.

What's your secret strategy to Longevity?

I take all my potions and lotions but the ultimate secret to longevity for me is spending at least an hour a day outside in nature. I live in a big city but we have the most incredible ravines and trail systems with creeks and wildlife so I take my son and doggie out for a little hike and we all feel recharged.

What are some daily non-negotiables for you when it comes to taking care of yourself?

I wish I could say it was luxuriating in a bath, but these days I’ll take 8 hours of solid sleep. I started taking a Bach flower remedy called white chestnut and it really calms a chatty mind when you are trying to wind down for the night.

How do you implement your own products into your routine?

Boundless Solid Oil is my go-to for keeping my skin nourished throughout the day. I use it as skin prep before my makeup and as a last step over my serum at night.  I use it on my hands and cuticles throughout the day, I love massaging it on my neck and inhaling the aromatherapeutic scent. I’ll smooth over my hair in the winter months and use it in the summer on my body when I get too much sun.

What other brands, founders or personalities do you find inspiring?

Janine Knizia has the most informative tried and true experiences to share on all things beauty and wellness.

What website or IG page do you visit daily for input and to stay up to date?

Beauty Independent, Beauty Matter, Goop, Glossy, CEW and Partner Wise are a few I read to stay up to date.

How do you structure your work day to help get things done while staying calm?

Working from home now allows for breaks to get other life things done so it feels pretty fluid.

Who do you turn to for advice, support and help?

I have advisors I turn to for their sage advice and I connect with other brand founders for support and we share information.

Do you have a morning routine that you stick to every day?

I love a giant mug of Matcha Ninja tea with almond milk, I make it into a latte with MCT oil and it's so comforting.

What do you do to unwind and relax in the evening?

I've been listening to Bobby Klein’s podcasts on Spotify for years. He interprets the I Ching and has amazing readings that I listen to in the evening.

What’s your favorite meal to eat?

I don’t eat meat, but I do love making a good spicy Mexican bowl.

What’s your number one beauty “secret”?

Cleansing - I use micellar water for my reactive skin and this has been a calming game changer.

Where do you go to relax, rejuvenate and recharge?

We go to our cottage on Lake Muskoka which is a couple hours outside of Toronto. It’s very rustic but I finally had to give in and get wifi so I could work from there :)

What’s your favorite travel destination ?

My favorite travel destinations are Costa Rica and Colorado.

Besides your own incredible products, what other Muse & Heroine products do you swear by?

I love Oio lab’s Lunula Night oil, it's an effective natural retinol treatment that works wonders!
