Matcha powder is made by grinding green tea leaves slowly between two stone grindstones. These leaves come from tea plants that have been covered 20 to 30 days before harvest to block sunlight and increase the level of chlorophyll in its leaves, stimulating the production of amino acids. The powder dissolves in water. It contains a huge amount of natural antioxidants which help fight free radicals, cholesterol and skin aging. Since the tea powder is fully ingested, rather than just brewed like regular green tea, matcha is even richer in certain elements, including caffeine and antioxidants. Its virtues are both stimulating and calming.
