The Art of Spring Renewal with The Heroine Master Cleanse

The launch of the Heroine Master Cleanse is both a joy and a true honor. When I first shared the vision for this seasonal reset with CC, founder of The Wylder, the synergy was immediate. Today, this collaborative formula is finally here, ready for you to experience.

To truly understand the intention, herbal synergy, and physiological depth behind this launch, I sat down with CC to discuss why Spring is the ultimate season to "step into your Heroine era."

The Philosophy of the Spring Reset

J: The Heroine Master Cleanse’s formula was created specifically for Muse & Heroine. What made this collaboration meaningful to you, and how does it reflect the philosophy behind The Wylder brand?

CC: This collaboration felt like a very natural progression after we had such a successful launch of Light Body, our collaborative formula for curbing cravings and metabolic reset that we launched on New Year’s Day. However, Janine and I always had our eyes set on another cleanse product launching in honor of the “real” new year, according to many traditions, the spring equinox.

In many traditions, Celtic, Pagan, Vedic, Egyptian, the arrival of spring was treated as a time for cleansing, and renewal and preparing the body for “new life,” marking the equinox as the beginning of a new cycle. That has always resonated with me, personally, and I know Janine felt the same way. We’re both very influenced by seasonal cycles, cosmic timing, and the idea that the body works best when it’s in sync and aligning with the natural rhythms.

I’ve always loved Janine’s bespoke phrase “Live Like a Heroine,” and to me spring really is that season where we return to creativity, femininity, and momentum - and step into our Heroine era -  after a more inward winter. I associate Spring not just with rebirth, but with the rise of the feminine, and coming into the best version of you. The Heroine Master Cleanse really came from that place. It’s a formula to cleanse and let go of what doesn't serve your highest self and step into a lighter, clearer state. The idea was always to make a formula that fit into real life. Something you can take to dinner, before an event, before a trip, without needing to stop your life to do a cleanse or a program. The Heroine Master Cleanse fits that philosophy exactly and it’s very aligned with the Muse & Heroine woman, she wants to feel clear, light, and energized, but she also wants to live.

Personal Rituals for the Equinox

J: Spring is often described as a moment of renewal for the body and mind. Do you have personal rituals, habits, or herbal allies that you turn to every year to welcome the arrival of spring?

CC: Every year around the spring equinox, I notice my energy naturally wants to reset, not just physically, but emotionally, socially, everything. When I lived in Malibu, we would always do Kundalini yoga around the equinox, usually outside, and that time of year the ocean would start warming up so we’d surf more and spend more time in the water.

These days in Montecito I’ve been revamping the garden, planting lavender, white roses, basil, mint, sage, hydrangeas, rosemary, and climbing jasmine… the deer are coming out again, the hills are covered in yellow flowers, and everything feels like it’s waking up all at once. This year we’ll be flying to the islands to be in St. Barths for the equinox, which feels perfect because to me this time of year is also about celebration. I feel like Spring is also a relationship reset, a time to deepen your romance, deepen your celebrations, renew your friendships, increase your laughter, and embrace your free-spiritedness. It’s a time to live, cleanse, and celebrate.

Herbally, I reach for Love Potion to open the heart and everything that helps to support the body’s natural renewal, bitters, mineral tonics, herbs that support the liver, the blood, with more lemon water, chlorophyll (which is in the Heroine Master cleanse), using herbs that help the liver, skin, and lymphatic system wake back up after a long winter. Spring is really when the body wants to clear the stagnation of winter and the right herbs just help it do what it wants to do.

The Tradition of Vernal Herbalism

J: In herbal medicine, spring has always been considered a time of renewal. Can you speak more specifically about the tradition of working with herbs in this season?

CC: In traditional Western herbalism, spring has always been associated with what herbalists call the use of alteratives or depuratives, herbs that support the body’s natural processes of elimination through the liver, lymphatic system, kidneys, skin, and digestion. Historically, after winter diets that were heavier, saltier, and lower in fresh plants, people would naturally experience more stagnation in the blood, the skin, and the digestive organs, so spring was the time when herbalists would introduce bitters, roots, and mineral-rich plants to help the body clear that buildup.

Plants like dandelion root, burdock, yellow dock, red clover, nettle, and Oregon grape have long been used for this purpose because they don’t force detoxification, they support liver function, bile flow, lymphatic movement, and the body’s ability to metabolize hormones and waste products more efficiently. In older herbal texts, these herbs are often described as “blood purifiers,” but what that really refers to physiologically is supporting the organs that filter and process what circulates through the bloodstream.

There’s also a long tradition of using bitters in the spring. Bitter herbs stimulate digestion, bile production, and liver activity, which is why they’ve been used for centuries at the change of seasons. When digestion improves, elimination improves, and the body naturally becomes lighter, clearer, and more energized without needing extreme cleansing.

Traditional Chinese Medicine describes a very similar pattern. Spring is associated with the Liver and the Wood element, which governs movement, flexibility, and the smooth flow of energy. When that system becomes stagnant after winter, people often notice irritability, bloating, skin issues, or hormonal congestion. The goal in spring isn’t to purge the body, but to restore circulation and flow, using herbs that gently move liver qi, support digestion, and clear heat or dampness that built up during colder months.

Ayurveda also recognizes early spring as a time when accumulated heaviness begins to melt, especially in the digestive and lymphatic systems. Traditional spring formulas focus on stimulating digestion, clearing excess mucus and fluid, and supporting the liver without stressing the nervous system and increasing cortisol. When you work with the herbal tonic, the body usually responds very quickly, and people notice they feel lighter, clearer, and more stable without feeling depleted.

“When detox is too aggressive, cortisol goes up, digestion slows down, and people actually hold onto more inflammation”

Supporting Natural Intelligence vs. Forced Detox

J: You often speak about supporting the body’s natural intelligence rather than forcing detoxification. How does the Heroine Master Cleanse work with the body’s own renewal processes?

CC: For me, the biggest mistake in modern cleansing culture is the fear that the body is toxic and needs to be aggressively cleaned out. I’ve always believed the body is incredibly intelligent. The Body “hears” every thought the mind thinks, and is reflected somewhere in the physiology so we try to keep the fear out of it, and give it herbs that support the detoxification process gently but effectively. The body is constantly adapting to what we experience, so when people talk about detox with common fears that the bodies are more toxic these days, our job is to support that process of detoxifying herbs that move through the liver, the kidneys, the skin, the gut, the lymphatic system.

The Heroine Master Cleanse is designed to support those pathways without pushing the nervous system into stress. When detox is too aggressive, cortisol goes up, digestion slows down, and people actually hold onto more inn, less hormonal congestion. Alternatively, when you push the body through more aggressive cleanses, the nervous system reads that as stress, the body won’t actually release what it’s holding. That’s the intelligence we’re working with.

The Synergy: Red Clover, Milk Thistle, and Oregon Grape

J: The formula combines botanicals like red clover, milk thistle, and Oregon grape root. What made this particular synergy so compelling from a physiological perspective?

CC: Each of those herbs works on a different part of the detoxification process, which is why the combination felt so synchronistic. Milk thistle is one of the most studied liver-support herbs, it helps protect liver cells and supports normal detox pathways. Oregon grape root works more on bile flow and digestion, which is essential if the body is actually going to eliminate what the liver processes. Red clover is traditionally used for the blood and lymphatic system, and it’s especially helpful when skin, hormones, or inflammation are involved. I’m less interested in one hero ingredient and more interested in how the whole system works together. flammation. With this formula, the intention is steady, gentle movement, better digestion, clearer skin, more stable energy, less water retention

J: When someone begins a seasonal reset like this, what changes might they notice in their body or energy?

CC: The changes are usually subtle but noticeable. People often feel lighter in their digestion, less bloated, clearer in their skin, and more stable in their energy. Sleep can improve, sugar cravings go down, and hormonally people tend to feel more balanced. Emotionally, when the liver and lymphatic system are moving better, people feel less irritable, less heavy, more motivated to embrace the lightness of Spring.
