Superwoman Allison Taylor
Allison is one of three sisters who created Le Prunier from their family plum farm in California! Growing up on a farm set the standard for eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables - and love and appreciation for nature's wonders. With Le Prunier she’s managed to combine her PR/sales/marketing background with her passion for health and wellness.
What did you do before you founded Le Prunier with your sisters, and how has it helped inform how you do what you do now?
I worked in fashion and entertainment for 10-15 years prior doing everything from sales, marketing, PR, to design and assisting. During USC undergrad, I was the Beauty Editor at Signature Magazine in LA which was an amazing experience. I’ve also worked beneath several amazing founders from companies such as Mother Denim and STX Entertainment. These positions really helped me to learn how to manage things as a founder and laid the groundwork for launching my own company. I was always passionate about health and wellness, so I’m grateful I’ve been able to combine all of these things with Le Prunier.
What’s been the most surprising element of starting your own business?
How quickly a public figure can change your business overnight. We were not expecting the Chrissy Teigen endorsement last year but are incredibly grateful for the impact it has had.
What's your secret strategy to Longevity?
Physically and emotionally; I am a huge fan of massages. I swear a good one will change my entire energy after a single session. I recently found an amazing woman that I’ve been seeing in Aspen. Also, getting plenty of rest and fresh foods. I was lucky to have grown up on a farm where eating fresh veggies and fruits became a routine I actually enjoy as an adult. Professionally; finding your true north and having a deep sense of purpose and motivation for starting a venture. You need to have a bit of blind ambition to tolerate the long hours and loneliness that entrepreneurship can bring.
What are some daily non-negotiables for you when it comes to taking care of yourself?
Again, fairly straight forward routine. Lots of rest, fresh foods, exercise, and water. I used to be very good about meditating and am hoping to re-introduce that. It’s also very important for me to have a bit of alone time as I find I’m most creative and productive in that state.
How do you implement your own products into your routine?
I prefer a simple routine, always have, which is why our Plum Beauty Oil is a staple. It’s so multi-functional and has truly transformed my skin. My AM routine is cleanse, apply a few drops of Plum Beauty Oil, then our latest launch, Plumscreen SPF 31 (coming so soon to Muse and Heroine!) Once those dry, I apply makeup if necessary.
What other brands, founders or personalities do you find inspiring?
I adore Janine of Muse & Heroine for many reasons! She radiates positive energy which I really appreciate and she’s been integral to the growth of Le Prunier throughout Europe. I’m grateful for our partnership/friendship. I also think Tata Harper is super inspiring as well. Love her approach to clean beauty and ingredients.
What website or IG page do you visit daily for input and to stay up to date?
Muse & Heroine, of course! I also frequent Goop and Bloomberg Business.
How do you structure your work day to help get things done while staying calm?
Mornings are devoted to catching up on emails. Afternoons are generally zooms, calls and any team meetings. I’m most creative/productive midday into the evening so that’s generally when I save time for my major brainstorming. I try to turn things off by 5/6 but there’s many times I’m working into the night through dinner. Trying to get better about that!
Who do you turn to for advice, support and help?
Usually my sisters, parents or fiancé.
Do you have a morning routine that you stick to every day?
Wake up, brush teeth, splash water on face, take my dog out for quick walk. I always make breakfast and chat with my fiancé for a bit then dive into work. I wish I could say I’m better about working out first thing or starting my mornings slowly but I’m generally pretty quick to get moving.
What do you do to unwind and relax in the evening?
I find cooking to be very therapeutic, so I really enjoy making us dinner. I’ve also been getting back into reading before bed which I love.
What’s your favorite meal to eat?
Italian or an amazing omakase sushi dinner.
What’s your number one beauty “secret”?
Hydration and rest. I try to wear minimal makeup and let my skin breathe. You can never drink too much water!
Where do you go to relax, rejuvenate and recharge?
Nature or the spa :)
What’s your favorite travel destination ?
Paris or Tokyo. I am dying to go to Africa so hopefully that will happen soon!
