Chemical Exfoliation
Alpha Amino Acids A.A.A (aspartic and glutamic) - two amino acids that contain unique acidic lateral chains. Similar to the acidity of glycolic and lactic acids (3.8), they are more acidic than most amino acids, with a pKa of about 4 (between 3.9 and 4.1). When applied onto the skin, the amino acids release a powerful renewing action that weakens corneodesmosomes and promotes their desquamation.
Aspartic acid ASP is the amino acid that provides protease activity to acidic protea-
ses (SASPase), which plays an important role in skin desquamation.
Glutamic acid Glu provides a detoxifying action.
Gluconolactone is a highly efficient second generation polyhydroxy acid. Its molecular size larger than most, therefore penetration into the skin is more superficial and gradual, and does not cause the burning & irritation commonly characteristic of acids.
