Although almost the entirety of this very special tree is used medicinally, Anima Mundi supplies fresh ground leaves as that's what most traditionally used. Yet the seeds, bark, fruit, roots and leaves have all been used for centuries in the rainforest within medicinal preparations. Indigenous people in South-Central America, Africa, and Asia have regarded this as a miracle remedy to stop viral infection, for pain relief and for impeding the proliferation of several types of cancer. Traditionally it has also been used to curve anxiety, as a mild sedative, to lower heart rate and reduce blood pressure. In more modern medical research, Soursop (Annona muricata) was discovered to contain a bioactive compound “annonaceous acetogenins” very well known for anticancer activity on cancer cell lines. It has also been successfuly used and approved in the medical community as a anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, to lower blood pressure, prevent ulcers, etc.
Yet, unfortunately soursop became a controlled substance by big pharma and FDA, once anti-cancerous research was peaking a couple decades ago, due to the potential side effects it might cause when taken in large doses and long term. Some studies have shown how it might cause nerve damage, tremors, or symptoms like neuropathy when taken over an extensive period of time.
