Our 85% cacao is distinctive because it incorporates very fine pieces of real dates, a feature that sets it apart when compared to other 'sugars.' This distinction is crucial because the dates still contain fiber. Fiber plays a vital role in balancing sugar levels in our bodies, preventing sudden spikes and placing this cacao lower on the glycemic index (GI) compared to other sugar types, including honey and coconut sugar.
Dates are not only lower in calories than regular sugar but also contain significantly less fructose compared to agave and honey. This results in a less 'sweet' taste. Additionally, since this cacao is essentially made from ground whole dried fruit, it retains all the fruit's valuable nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Our unprocessed cacao, with just a subtle hint of sweetness, carries a slight bitterness that can help reduce sugar cravings. Research has shown that bitter foods, such as real cacao, can deactivate receptors in the brain responsible for sugar cravings.
